Adjective/Verb/Noun
[uhn-seen]
“NOT SEEN OR NOTICED.
UNSEEN replaces its harsher, more direct synonym ‘censored’ to avoid algorithmic censors. The UNSEEN can describe the individual who has been censored, the community of individuals, their work and/or their experience.
Adjective
[uhn-fair]
“NOT BASED ON OR BEHAVING ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLES OF EQUALITY AN JUSTICE.
UNFAIR in this project describes treatment that clearly does not break guidelines or examples where guidelines have been applied inequitably or where alternative fairer recourse is freely available.
Noun
[sen-ser-ship]
“THE SUPPRESSION OR PROHIBITION OF ANY PARTS OF BOOKS, FILMS, NEWS, ETC. THAT ARE CONSIDERED OBSCENE, POLITICALLY UNACCEPTABLE, OR A THREAT TO SECURITY.
CENSORSHIP included in the project includes THREE parts: shadow banning, content removal AND account removal. We are NOT including censorship of content that has scientifically inaccurate information, active porn, hate speech, organised crime, active self-injury, content promoting eating disorders, or graphic violence.
THE UNSEEN has bought together hundreds of people, spanning a huge range of identities and experiences of becoming UNSEEN across multiple platforms.
We aim to showcase the breadth and human consequences of unfair censorship practices and move forward the discussion on solutions in a way that emphasises the voices of those affected.
