What reason was given for your ban?
Sexual solicitation/violation of community guidelines.
Why do you think your post(s) was censored?
Sexualisation of plus-size bodies – my bikini pics are considered too sexual to be acceptable however straight-sized creators can post the same content freely without discrimination. I consider this to be discrimination against marginalised bodies -this is a huge issue across the plus-size community and so many other creators I know too.
Were you able to appeal and what was the response?
Yes, they are rarely reinstated and the response is always from a bot, never a human.
What effect has your experience of censorship had on you?
It has massively impacted the reach of my Instagram page and therefore business and livelihood. Plus size and disabled creators have to work twice as hard for the same visibility as straight-sized, able bodied folk. Even people who follow me are not able to find my page when they type my name into the search bar on insta – in spite of having a 230k following my page never shows up.
What’s one thing you want people to know about this topic?
I would like people to realise the double standards that exist in social media for plus-sized and disabled creators.
