Violated the ‘terms of use.’

Why do you think your post(s) was censored?

Maybe because our photos contain implied nudity?

Were you able to appeal and what was the response?

Yes. We had to send a mugshot of ourselves holding a piece of paper with a unique number on it. We never heard anything back.

What effect has your experience of censorship had on you?

Our entire Instagram account (@wearejdphoto) was deactivated and removed without any warning. We had a few implied artistic nude photographs on that account. We sent several emails to Instagram to appeal and attempt to get our account back. We never received a reply and still do not have access to that account. Our account had 15k followers and we used the messenger service to communicate with our subjects. We had to rebuild our community from scratch.

What’s one thing you want people to know about this topic?

Instagram provides no way for you to communicate with them to resolve issues. It’s a shame that you spend so much time and effort trying to expand your audience and make a name only to have it taken away for no reason at all. Instagram does not care about its users- we never got our Instagram account back.
