What reason was given for your ban?

I’m a painter, although Instagram says artwork containing nudity is ok they still penalise my posts if my paintings surround explicit sex-positive scenes.

Why do you think your post(s) was censored?

It’s frustrating because it’s not going against the rules. I did my dissertation on this topic at university. I think they’re removed because of the personal opinion of an individual person.

Were you able to appeal and what was the response?

Yes, still lost my account.

What effect has your experience of censorship had on you?

I direct Antwerp Mansion Gallery & West Art Collective. We run kink art and music events. I built an account on Instagram for 2 years. I’d been talking to people about exhibitions & future plans. Once my account was lost all that was lost too.

What’s one thing you want people to know about this topic?

That you’re not a bad person for wanting to post things that go against ‘community guidelines’ (even though art is actually allowed).
