Adult content, nudity, solicitation

Why do you think your post(s) was censored?

Because I am a woman in control of my body who’s not paying for their advertising and has been growing the account without them making any profits off me.

Were you able to appeal and what was the response?

I have. It is always still deemed inappropriate. When they rarely put the post back they do not put in their system that it has been reviewed and reposted, it just stays as if it was still taken down, which I believe is part of what leads to me being shadowbanned on their system AND puts my account in danger of deletion.

What effect has your experience of censorship had on you?

It has affected my growth and reach to new fans on social media. It’s definitely affected my mental health in the sense of me getting anxiety about being deleted again after posting anything as they have been flagging things that are respecting their rules. So every day I get anxious about having to go through trying to get my account back after building it for 10 years.

What’s one thing you want people to know about this topic?

Instagram has been inconsistent in the way it targets and censors accounts.

Celebrities and companies such as Playboy and influencers and anyone that pays for adverts can post whatever they want without being shadow banned or deleted. Artists, performers, SWers, creatives and queer people – people who actually built Instagram from the start and attracted new users to the platform- have been dealing with unfair retaliation and treated unfairly.

The rules must apply to everyone or no one.
